An implant-supported bridge is a restoration that replaces several missing upper or lower teeth in a row. It is a dental prosthesis that uses dental implants, namely artificial tooth roots, for support, providing a permanent solution with many benefits.
When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth can shift into the empty spaces, causing misalignment and jaw problems. A traditional bridge requires the removal of enamel from the healthy surrounding teeth in order to anchor it in place. Implant-supported bridges use posts with crowns placed on either side of the gap to support the restoration and replace the missing teeth.
Implant-supported bridges offer many advantages over traditional bridges:
An implant-supported bridge consists of three parts - the dental implants, which are surgically placed in the jaw, the abutments, and a series of porcelain crowns that replace the missing teeth. After determining the patient's candidacy for dental implants, the dentist will place the implants surgically to serve as anchors to support the bridge. Once the tissue has healed around your new titanium posts, you will return to the dentist's office so the surgical site can be restored with your new tooth or teeth. The final step in your treatment is the placement of your custom bridge, at which point you will have a natural-looking smile again!
